Comparison

Docent vs Scribe

Scribe (formerly ScribeHow — scribehow.com now redirects to scribe.com) is a documentation tool — a browser or desktop capture turns your clicks into a written, searchable how-to guide for internal knowledge bases. Docent only makes video, from a URL, with nobody clicking through anything.

Who each is actually best for

Pick Scribe if
the goal is an internal knowledge base or SOP library — searchable, exportable to Confluence or PDF, redactable for compliance. That's genuinely a different job than a client-facing video.
Pick Docent if
what you're handing someone is meant to be watched, not read — a client walkthrough — and you don't want to click through it to make it.
Not a fair fight on
Compliance and internal-knowledge tooling. Scribe's Enterprise tier (PHI redaction, SCIM, multi-team governance) is for regulated internal documentation; Docent has none of that and isn't trying to.

"Scribe documents your process for your team. Docent hands your client a video — and you never had to run through the process yourself."
